2009 Carnival - U6 7 & 8 (26th July 2009)
Minimize

On 26 July 2009 Colleges held its first ever 'non-competitive' carnival. The carnival was for the under 6, 7 and 8 age groups. After some late withdrawals we had 28 teams line up to play games for the fun of it - no points and no finals. That's not to say it wasn't competitive as great skills were on display and close games had the crowds excited.

President Adrian Wellington said it was the best carnival we have ever had – a big statement that is hard to argue with. He noted how great it was to see parents cheering for players from both sides to encourage them for their efforts.

Well done too the band of volunteers and their partners and children for making the event work. Particular thanks go to the band of under 10 players who refereed games. This is where official referee's eventually come from and these young players having a go should be encouraged.

Teams came from as far afield as Pine Rivers and Rochedale, Southside Eagles and Eastern Suburbs. Our home teams showed their support with 10 of 13 teams playing.

A selection of photos from three photographers at the event are posted here and full size versions can be emailed to those who request them through our Secretary. If you have an awesome photo you'd like up here send it to the Secretary.

Thanks all for a great day out.

Just like to say thank you for a great U/6 Carnival this weekend. It was terrifically run and planned and our players really enjoyed it. Unfortunately we couldn’t play the last game due to sickness of our players. But thanks for a great day and look forward to next year. Thanks. Nathan Charles Pine Rivers u6 Southampton
